From the age of two, I knew I wanted to be a movie actress. At eleven, watching my pastor speak, I realized I would be a really good minister, but looked at the bible and knew I could not study the old testament. When it came time for college, my mother, believing theater was not a realistic thing to go to college for, encouraged me to get a Teaching Degree. After student teaching, I decided that wasn’t my path and upon graduating from college got into Sales and Marketing instead.

In 1987 - two jobs, two sexual harassment experiences, a corporate down sizing and a firing later - I started pursuing my dream of acting professionally. I continued doing sales work to support my studies. Then, in 1992, my managers kids gifted me with a Library Christmas Village House. When I asked why, they said “ that’s who you are - you love sharing knowledge.” A week later, an aura reader told me my totem kindred spirit is a deer. When I asked why, she said, “Deers are the protectors of knowledge and the powerful communicators among all animals.”

By 1996, after doing a one woman show, I was worn out from running back and forth between NJ and NY balancing a sales and theater career. I always received wonderful compliments about my performances, but could not get seen by the right people. The modeling agency I was working with suggested I come back to them when I looked like I was in my thirties. I was 37. The reality of how little work there is for actresses at that age made me realize that it was time to focus on having only one career that would fulfilled me ... but what? A friend called and told me she had been telling someone about me that day. She told them about how much I support others to grow and learn and move forward in their lives. As a second thought, she said ..."and, oh, she's a really great actress and sales person". She, my bosses kids, the aura reader and my Mother were right. My two greatest skills are my ability to share knowledge and communicate with anyone at any age of any background.

When I told another friend I was searching for what was next for my career, she suggested I take a program called The Landmark Forum. That started a year long study of Ontology - the study of who you are "being". In 1999, when an ex-partner challenged me about what I could be passionate about, I blurted out “I want to coach people about their lives!” One year later, a friend called to say she was studying with a Life Coach and “Karen, this is so who you are. You really need to look into this.” Two months later, I started my Life Coaching studies.

The path of my studies led me to A Course in Miracles. It was there that I met my Shamanic Teacher. Her speaking rekindled memories or “knowings” that I didn’t realize existed. In 2002, through a Shamanic Journey I learned my life’s purpose. I saw myself in a dark box. The lid opened and a hand reached in to pull me out. As I was lifted up, I stared into my own face, but it was all lit up. Merging into the "lit up me", I started walking down a road towards a bright light. I asked if it was my time to go to heaven and I heard -- "No, guide them to the light". Gradually, I was joined by others walking on the road, but they were dark. As we walked, the people around me started to light up. The group became larger and larger and each person became brighter and brighter until we merged with the light. One year later, I was watching a movie when I saw the image that inspired my logo. It took another six months to receive the name of my company -- "Awakenings".

It wasn't until 2006 that I went through the very deep and powerless state called "dark night of a soul". Every day I got on my hands and knees, sobbing, asking God what love was for, what does it mean and why bother? I had met a Lifemate and the love I felt for him reminded me how to love unconditionally. When he choose to stay with someone else, I was lost. I didn't know what to do with all that love I felt. It took nine months for me to walk through the darkness of my thoughts and pull myself out of that "coffin". I learned to give that unconditional love to myself. It was my opportunity to learn how to "awaken my light".

In his book, "Nothing is Impossible", Christopher Reeves talks about being in a sailboat on the ocean during a storm. Days later, exhausted, they finally saw a light and knew it was a lighthouse. They were near the coast and would survive. He called the lighthouse a beacon of hope and stated the reason it is so incredibly strong is because it has to be able to withstand all storms in order to keep shining to guide others on their path. I wept. The trials and tribulations of my life finally made perfect sense.

Why Love?...because it is the only feeling state that feels good! I now know how to unconditionally love myself, and truly walk the walk of consciously choosing loving thoughts over ego thoughts. Who I Am is a beacon of Light to guide you along the path of "Awakenings" to the already existing Spiritually Loving Being that exists in each and every one of us.

Love = Your Light = Spiritual Being = God Within
