Why?...I’ve learned by walking through my own darkness. I remember a friend saying to me twenty years ago that she didn’t understand why God was making me so strong. “You are the strongest person I know as it is!”. I replied that “it has to be for politics or theater and since I have no desires to pursue politics, then it has to be theater.” Ten years later, I learned that wasn’t the reason.
From the age of two, I knew I wanted to be a movie actress. My mother, believing theater was not a realistic thing to go to college for, encouraged me to get a Teaching Degree. After four years of student teaching, I decided that wasn’t my path. Eleven years later, kids I babysat, picked out a Library Christmas Village House for me. When I asked why, they said “…that’s who you are.” A week later, an aura reader told me my totem kindred spirit is a deer. When I asked why, she said, “Deer are the protectors of knowledge and the powerful communicators among all animals.” My two greatest skills are my ability to share knowledge and communicate with anyone of any age of any background. Over the years, friends have always come to me for help through emotional upsets. Four years ago, when an ex-partner challenged me about what I could be passionate about, I blurted out “I want to coach people about their lives and create a healing center that incorporates many different holistic practices.” One year later, a friend called to say she was studying with a Life Coach and “Karen, this is so who you are. You really need to look into this.” Two months later, I started my studies.
So how did I go from Life Coaching to Shamanic Coaching? The path of my studies led me to A Course in Miracles. It was there that I met my Shamanic Teacher. She shared with me that her purpose in life is to create a holistic healing center. Clearly, we are kindred spirits/soul mates on a similar path. Her speaking rekindled memories or “Knowings” that I didn’t realize existed. Two months later, through a Shamanic Journey I learned my life’s purpose. ...that resides in each and every one of us.
All these years and many lessons and messages later, I have learned that my mother was guiding me on the path of “teacher” that God needed me to follow. It just wasn’t meant to be in a school system. Shamans are considered to be “wounded healers”. As a friend affirmed, very well, “Karen, your life finally makes sense”.
